Tax Cuts

When Your Church
Opposes Tax Cuts,
Does it Speak For You?

Statement #1:     IRD Questions Church Mandate Against Tax Cuts

Statement #2:     Church Leaders and Tax Collectors

These two statements by the Institute on Religion and Democracy, an ecumenical Christian organization, show how our United Methodist Church is hurt by partisan politics.  The national United Methodist Board of Church and Society, like its Iowa counterpart, has been captured by one political faction that uses the Church to promote a political agenda.

Methodist Laity Reform Movement believes taxes and tax cuts are issues on which there is no clear Christian position; sincere Christians can and do honestly disagree; and our Church should not take either side.

Methodist Laity Reform Movement does not support or oppose tax cuts or any political party.  We do not lobby.  We work to stop our Church from hiring lobbyists — in Washington and in Des Moines.
